Healthy eating tips reach the community when they are practical. Sara Zellers, SAND volunteer co-ordinator educates the public about smart shopping through her grocery shopping tour.
One of the key skills needed to create and maintain healthy eating habits is being able to shop smart. You can have the best meal planning, but if the food is not actually in your house, the meal plan has no hope of actually being turned in to reality.
The following grocery store tour was given on March 21, 2015 at the Kroger on Trinity Rd. in Cordova, TN. My purpose of this tour is to explain food labels, nutrient density, and other basic food comparison concepts in a hands-on, real world environment. If you are interested in attending one of the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics grocery store tours, please contact any of our officers or check our calendar for days, times, and locations of upcoming tours.
I hope you learn some tips and tricks on smart shopping with this video and do not hesitate to contact any of us at SAND with questions you might have!
